Who are you? Yubin Choi, from South Korea.

Tell us a bit about your work. The main title of this series is "Kitchen therapy". It's inspired by the dream kitchen that everyone wishes to have. Those kitchens could give you colourful inspiration, could be your own cozy space, or could be aesthetically pleasing.

How long have you identified as being an artist? Maybe roughly for two years? Although I was drawing some doodles whilst travelling Europe in 2016, I would say I started drawing more seriously since 2020.

How does where you live affect your artworks? There are a lot of things going on in my surroundings as my husband and I are living in an apartment in the city, so I found it helpful for my work to go out to a coffee shop so I can focus on my work as well as get distracted by other people's chitchat sometimes which turns out to be a great white noise or inspiration.

How did you come across this medium / your style? I was always interested in art, but I didn't get to learn drawing. I had this fear of not being able to make the piece perfect, especially with colouring. But since I painted digitally, the fact that I can always undo gives me more confidence and makes me get along with painting. I am still in the process of finding my own style and figuring out what I love to draw consistently. Because I want to draw forever.

Best advice for new artists? My drawing started from little doodles I drew with a black marker whenever I went to a cafe in Prague. It might sound lame but grabbing your favourite pen or pencil and leaving some trace of your day on a piece of paper is definitely artistic enough and would be the first step for your own art collection.

What motivates you to create? My motivation keeps changing. Sometimes my depression or stress becomes the motivation, or some products that I wish to have or make motivate me to draw more.

Who or what are your biggest influences artistically? These days I have found some florists' creative works very inspirational. Both the colour palette of flowers and some imaginative flower accessory works are so clever and sometimes quite shocking.

How have you developed your career? I'm trying not to get stressed from the compulsion of continuous art production. I draw very impulsively, but whenever I get into drawing and have a great theme to draw, I plan to put that art into the prints or even into merchandise like postcards or digital calendars so people can enjoy my artwork in many different ways.

Where do you find inspiration? Some cool colour combinations from design shops, or my old photos I took in Europe.

When are you at your most creative? When I encounter something I can relate to but still exotic to me.

How has your style changed over time? Started from simple line drawing with a black pen, went through a bunch of plants and flowers using colour pencils, had this period of enjoying abstract art, and now trying to draw and paint diversely using a digital art program.

What do you listen to whilst you create? I don't listen to any music when I draw. I rather hear some random noise from wherever it comes, or play some videos that I don't need to watch carefully at all.
